The premier writer on surf casting and all things striped bass. Frank is the author of six books and hundreds of magazine articles. Check out his on-line articles on StriperSurf and ask him a question in his exclusive Forum "Ask Frank Daignault."
Jim is recognized as one of New Jersey’s top saltwater fly fishing and light tackle guides. He is a founding member of Shore Catch Guide Service of Manasquan, NJ as well as a noted author of two best selling books, highly sought after seminar speaker, fishing columnist, and outdoor writer. Capt Freda has written over 40 articles for StriperSurf and hosts the "Ask Shore Catch Guides" Forum.
triperSurf is now in its 11th year, it has grown to almost five hundred (500) articles online! One of the major early contributors is Frank Daignault who came on board in 1999. He recently wrote a piece for the New England Outdoor Writers Association which recaps his ten years. That is a long time when one considers that the “lifetime” of most experts and pundits is at best a few years. The fact that a whole new generation of striper fishermen now come to his forum to seek his advice and learn from the most notable and respected surf fisherman is a testament to not only his skill as a fisherman but his ability to use our language.
Several years ago a man wrote to me and stated that Frank was “the Hemingway of striper fishing.” Personally I've always thought he was better, comparable to the great American writer, Jack London. No matter who we might compare him to, he has surely made his mentor, Frank Woolner, damn proud.
Ten Years of “Ask Frank”
hen a New Jersey Webmaster introduced himself and made me an Internet proposition, I had no idea what he was talking about. Back then in 1999 I had never accessed the Internet and had no clue about its purpose. He wanted me to host a Message Board for surf casters that would be called “Ask Frank Daignault” -- the aim of which was to field questions about shore fishing on his website, StriperSurf.com. It was quite an experience.
Here are two pictures of nearly identical size striped bass caught in June. One was caught in a historic, world famous fishing spot off of Cuttyhunk Island, Massuchesetts and the second was caught about one half mile off the Lavallette, NJ coast. They both shared something in common, of course the skill of the fishermen but other traits deal with Superior Design and Maximum Quality. Want to learn more? Just click on either picture.
